George Masten George Masten was initially appointed to serve on the Investment Board in 1985 to represent active members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Following his retirement after serving for eleven years as the Executive Director of the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE), Mr. Masten was reappointed to the Board in 1993 to represent retired members of PERS. He served as Board Chair from September, 2003 to September, 2005. He is Chair of the WSIB's Public Markets Committee and a member of the Private Markets and Audit committees. Mr. Masten was President of the Retired Public Employees Council of Washington for three years. He is currently a member of the state's Salary Setting and Productivity boards and an active member of the local Chapter of State Employee Retirees. He was Director of Field Services and served as an Area Representative for the WFSE and worked as a Disability Claims Adjudicator for Washington's Department of Labor and Industries. He served as a Vice President of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and was a member of the Washington State Labor Council Executive Board.
