Judy Schurke Judy Schurke was appointed Director of the Department of Labor and Industries in March 2007. She served as Acting Director for five months before that, along with continuing her responsibilities as Deputy Director for Operations, a position to which she was appointed in April 2003. She is a member of the WSIB's Public Markets Committee. Previously, Ms. Schurke was appointed to the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals as the employer member and served from 1996-2003; worked for the Boeing Company from 1989 to 1996 as Manager of the Interstate and Foreign Workers' Compensation programs; and, as the Corporate Manager of Workers' Compensation in Washington State. Ms. Schurke worked for the Department of Labor and Industries from 1974 to 1989 starting as a clerk typist in Claims Administration. Judy held increasingly responsible positions within the department and, at the time she left, was the program compliance supervisor with the self-insurance program.
